| Abstract/Key issues: For
a knowledge based society the interaction between industry, institute
and university is a driving factor for clustering in different areas.
The industry needs access to the university-institute research and the
later organizations need access to a powerful industrial customer base.
This is especially in the area of microelectronics and telecom systems,
in which areas the knowledge development tends to be market driven.
In Sweden we now tend to have imbalance in several such clusters where
the actual university capability has outgrown the industrial demand
in that cluster. To sustain its excellence such clusters may be helped
by the infusion of FDI in terms of new industrial customers with advance
demand. To identify and find such investors is a strategic issue of
importance for the cluster as a whole.
